About

Gabrijela has returned to the studio after a career break to mothering her young children.

Here typical work is full of playful compositions and vibrant colour palettes. They are loaded intricate patterns and various techniques for each element of the picture. One could spend a good deal of time following the path of the composition, stopping at each element to take note of whats happening.

‘The Quiet Painting Project’ is quite literally that, a side project of experimentation with simplicity and serenity. Both in form, colour and composition. In the future the two painting practices will most likely join together. But for now they are kept separate.

You may notice a recurrent theme of jugs and vessels throughout the project. This has carried over from her earlier work where vessels have continuously been seen throughout her paintings. She is interested in them for a myriad of reasons; their historical significance, their mundaneness, their important role at the table as we connect with loved ones, how they can both contain and replenish life and us.

Gabrijela grew in the St George area of Sydney.
She currently lives in Carss Park with her husband and two children. She works from her home studio.

Gabrijela holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from UNSW Art & Design (previously known as CoFA).
